In this course you will learn about the physical parts of a computer and how the hardware and software work together. You will understand basic operating system differences and functionality. As a result of this course, you will be able to identify the basic parts of a computer and choose software appropriate to work effectively. In this course you will learn common program functions through word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. You will be able to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as well as understand basic database structure and use. In this course, you will learn about using the Internet, electronic mail, and understand how networks and the Internet function. You will study the impact of technolgoy on society and learn how to live on-line in a safe manner. In this course you will increase skill in reading and writing for life. You will investigate topics of relevance as you learn the meaning of becoming a productive citizen in a global world. You will be able to use the Internet effectively to locate and understand current affairs, academic material, and daily living needs. In this course you will attain a neccesary level of financial literacy to succeed in the world after high school by concentrating on developing "money smarts". You will learn the importance of credit, Understand banking, budgeting and saving, and be exposed to activities that will increase your knowledge in living on your own. In this course, you will be exposed to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a self-help book written by Stephen R. Covey and adopted by the business world. You will learn how to make proactive choices for your future, how to plan for success, how to prioritize, build confidence and understanding, and to move from dependance to independence. This course is designed for English Language Learners (ELL) who need to increase skill levels in reading and math to gain competitive status in the business world. Many of the activities in this course focus on basic reading and math skills that may have been missed as you acquired the English Language, or skills that you may need to review. This course is a requirement for all English Language Learners.
